Post-Op Appointment

At your post-operative appointment, your doctor will want to know how you are feeling and will also review the operative findings and pathology report with you.

Following your surgery, it is recommended that you secure personal copies of the operative and pathology reports. These reports should be reviewed thoroughly with you by your medical doctor.

Some items which may be recorded in the pathology report and which are important are: myometrium due to its link with Asherman’s Syndrome; adipose (fat) tissue because it indicates that there was a puncture of the uterus. If your doctor suspected cancer and obtained the endometrial sample for this reason, the pathology report will contain that information. There may be other important items recorded in the pathology report and all of these should be reviewed thoroughly.

If it is noticed that menstrual periods lighten, stop or change following a D & C, follow up diagnostic studies should be performed to see if the patient has developed intrauterine adhesions, or Asherman’s Syndrome. Remember, the risk on a pregnant or recently pregnant uterus is between 14 – 48% (in the situations emphasized in the beginning of the site).
